What do you love and loathe about TV's coverage of religion and spirituality? Which programmes have you enjoyed and which have you hated?

I enjoy watching that show on sunday mornings, the Big Question I think it's called. It has a good debate between people of all religions on various topics. It's a good insight into different religions and the main thing I learn over and over again is that there's extremists in every religion. Christian and Muslim extremists can be as bad as each other. A lot of people believe there's one single 'right' way to live and everyone else doesnt deserve to live a happy life.
It's a good show though, not afraid to ask difficult questions and there's people from all religions and walks of life to try to answer them. Open debate is the way forward!

I can't think of anything in particular I dislike about religion on tv. Maybe songs of praise? Just because whever I've caught it (while channel hopping I hasten to add) it seems so stuffy and straight laced. I assume it's aimed at old ladies who can't get out to church any more. Nothing stands out as particularly offensive.
There was one show a while ago about a girl who lived in a large family farm and spent her spare time screaming at anyone who would listen about how they were going to burn in hell. This show got me really riled because she's been taught to think like this, she had no personal life, no concept of what the world is like, how to have fun. She just saw people as evil heathens and it was her personal responsibility to tell them so.
I really felt for her in about 2 years time when she is able to think about things a bit more clearly or comes against any personal conflict and her whole world will crumble. All she knows is to go on a personal crusade and had no other life to fall back on. Her parents have taught her this and will regret it as soon as she begins to have any doubts and her world falls apart.
She was taken out into the night to tell all her peers that they're liars, cheaters, blasphemers etc and would go to hell unless they repented. People shouldn't turn their children into religious extremists! I honestly thought she was mentally ill.

As a Christian I don't think that there are any programmes on normal TV that reflect whats going on in the Christian scene today. Songs of Praise is like a museum piece mostly reflecting a style of praise that disappeared 20 years ago. The only place you'll find something beginning to reflect modern Christianity is God TV on Satellite
